Craft, art, imagination, and functionality merge into one, in the making of lasting architecture. The process requires patience, a great team, and an extraordinary client who is as engaged and as committed as we are.
~ Stuart Silk

Stuart believes the spirit behind his work is propelled by a deep and abiding appreciation of the work of the many great architects who proceeded him. Since founding Stuart Silk Architects in 1981, the firm has received numerous awards and achieved a large portfolio of published projects.

Stuart received his Master’s Degree in Architecture from the Yale School of Architecture in 1976. In 1977, he moved to Seattle and worked for NBBJ where he gained valuable experience on a variety of commercial projects. Stuart has lectured at University of California Berkeley, University of Washington, University of Edmonton, and at the Venice Biennale. His work has been included in exhibitions at Yale University, Wesleyan University, and at the Global Architecture art gallery. He has served on juries and taught at the University of Washington.

Stuart has a long-standing interest in the arts and has served on the boards of the Henry Art Gallery, CoCA, and Arcade. He is married and has four children. Outside the office, Stuart likes to travel with his wife Mary, go on fly-fishing sojourns, and he also enjoys golfing and hiking in the Pacific Northwest high country.
